Icons: Ziya Azazi

World famous Turkish dancer, Ziya Azazi is highly acclaimed for his pioneering

choreography based on the whirling rituals of Sufi dervishes. In Icons, he and his

dancers are joined by French musician and composer Serge Adam, whose trumpet

improvisations and electronic sampling build a sonic structure on which this

extraordinary dance work is built.

Through rich choreography, progressive music and transcendent lighting, the bodies of

the dancers are represented as civilized entities, powerfully engaging with concepts of

ritual, tradition, passion and religion, and involved in the construction and deconstruction

of these inter-related icons.
